DR FRANCES CRESS WELSING "WHITE PEOPLE CAN'T BE EQUAL TO BLACK PEOPLE"

DR FRANCES CRESS WELSING "WHITE PEOPLE CAN'T BE EQUAL TO BLACK PEOPLE" *** **NOTE: NONE of the clips in the web series are in the full length film. These are all out takes** ABOUT DR FRANCES CRESS WELSING Dr.Frances Cress Welsing,(1935-2016) was a psychiatrist best known for writing The Isis Papers, was born Frances Luella Cress in Chicago, Illinois, on March 18, 1935. Welsing, who was the child of physician Henry Cress and teacher Ida Mae Griffen, grew up the middle of three daughters. She received her Bachelor’s of Science from Antioch College in Ohio in 1957 and her medical degree (M.D.) from Washington, D.C.’s Howard University in 1962. After earning her M.D., Welsing stayed in Washington, D.C., pursuing a career in child and general psychiatry. Welsing spent nearly twenty-five years working as a staff physician for D.C.’s Department of Human Services, and also as the clinical director of two schools catering to children with emotional troubles. Welsing opened her own private practice in D.C. in 1967. Through her published works and her research, Welsing sought to help bring about a solution to the mental health problems of the black community by understanding racism. Dr. Welsing passed away January 2, 2016. This is the last known on camera interview footage of her. Audre Lorde: A Burst of Light (1993)

"'Audre Lorde: A Burst Of Light' is much more than the story of an African American poet who died of cancer in November 1992, told through words, music and poetry. This program not only recounts major turning points in Lorde's developments as an artist but recaptures the essential message of her life: that survival is possible in a hostile world. From her birth in Harlem in 1934, the daughter of West Indian immigrant parents, Audre Lorde overcame the challenges of race and sex discrimination, homophobia, the cultural and intellectual repression of the 1950s, and a [fifteen-year] battle with cancer.

Assata Shakur in Cuba, Part 1, Interview Kenny S.

Videographer Kenny Snodgrass, Actives and Author of From Victimization to Empowerment. www.trafford.com/07-0913 - This was an interview with Assata Shakur in Cuba, a member of the Black Liberation Army, a victim of armed police attacks in the 1960's. This interview was conducted by myself (Kenneth Snodgrass), and others in May of 1992. We were there as part of the Venceremos Brigade. The Venceremos Brigade was founded in 1959 to foster friendship between Cubans Americans and Americans in the U.S.A. I interview her a number of times, and plan to use them in my new book called "Conversation with James Boggs, and Assata Shakur."
