6 Times Jada Pinkett Smith proved she’s not afraid to fight for her people

Jada Pinkett-Smith is known for speaking her mind, and she has no chill when it comes to telling her truth.

Whether she’s calling out lies or challenging the public to do better, Jada doesn’t hold her tongue.

Here are 6 times Jada came out swinging and proved she’s not to be messed with:

Fighting For Her Friend

Jada is pissed that her ‘Girl’s Trip’ costar, Tiffany Haddish, was snubbed by the Golden Globes.
“I have so much to say on why @TiffanyHaddish was not nominated for a Globe… but I won’t,” she wrote on Twitter after the nominations were announced.
“I’m not upset about @TiffanyHaddish or @GirlsTripMovie not getting a nom… I’m discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press/@goldenglobes wouldn’t even WATCH the movie,” she posted.
“Girls Trip was one of the most successful films this summer & Tiff was hands down the funniest person on screen in 2017 and we couldn’t get eyes on the film or a press conference. How could a nom happen & how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening?” she added.
“But yet… Tiff has been asked to present at their ceremony. This isn’t about shaming, this is about the need for discussion of an antiquated system.”

Fighting For Herself

Will’s wife took issue with the way her relationship with the late Tupac Shakur was portrayed in the film, ‘All Eyez On Me.’
“Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth,” she said on Twitter.
“Pac never read me that poem. I didn’t know that poem existed until it was printed in his book. Pac never said goodbye to me before leaving for LA. He had to leave abruptly and it wasn’t to pursue his career. I’ve never been to any of Pac’s shows by his request. We never had an argument backstage. The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful.”

Fighting For Her Faith

In September, Jada defended herself against Leah Remini’s claims that she practices Scientology.
“I know Jada’s in. I know Jada’s in. She’s been in Scientology a long time,” Remini told The Daily Best. “I never saw Will [Smith] there, but I saw Jada at the Celebrity Centre. They opened up a Scientology school, and have since closed it. But Jada, I had seen her at the Scientology Celebrity Centre all the time.”
Jada clapped back to clear her name.
“I have studied Dianetics, and appreciate the merits of Study Tech,” she tweeted.“But I am not a Scientologist…I practice human kindness, and I believe that we each have the right to determine what we are and what we are not.”

Fighting For The People

In 2016, she boycotted the Academy Awards after the lack of diversity in nominees resulted in the #OscarsSoWhite outcry.
“Is it time that people of color recognize how much power, influence, that we have amassed, that we no longer need to ask to be invited anywhere?” she said in the video. “Maybe it’s time that we recognize that if we love and respect and acknowledge ourselves in the way in which we are asking others to do, that that is the place of true power.”
Pinkett Smith called for change, saying that “it’s our responsibility now” to make the difference.
“Begging for acknowledgement, or even asking, diminishes dignity and diminishes power. And we are a dignified people and we are powerful,” she said. “Let’s do us, differently.”

In 2015, Jada went H.A.M. after folks blasted her then-13-year-old daughter, Willow Smith, for a photo in which she was lying on a bed with her shirtless friend, Moises Arias.
“Here’s the deal. There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it,” she told TMZ.

Fighting For The Youth

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith
In 2013, Jada came out swinging for the youngin’s when she wrote an open letter about bullying young stars.
“How can we ask for our young stars to have a high level of responsibility if we are not demonstrating that same level of responsibility towards them?”
The 41-year-old took issue with the public’s obsession with cyber-bullying and said she spent time “trying to differentiate cyber-bullying from how we attack and ridicule our young stars through media and social networks. It is as if we have forgotten what it means to be young or even how to behave like good ol’ grown folk.”
She went on to pose several powerful questions that called people out for their double standards.
“Is it okay to continually attack and criticize a famous 19 year old who is simply trying to build a life, exercise his talents while figuring out what manhood and fame is all about as he carries the weight of supporting his family as well as providing the paychecks to others who depend on him to work so they can feed their families as well?”
