Angela Bassett Responds After Being Mistaken for Omarosa by News Publication

Award-winning actress Angela Bassett was mistaken for former White House official Omarosa Manigault-Newman.

During the 2018 Emmy Awards ceremony on Monday, Bassett and comedian Tiffany Haddish presented an award for lead actress in a comedy series to performer Rachel Brosnahan. However, a photo printed by The New York Times mixes up Bassett for Manigault-Newman in their caption.

The news outlet responded to their mistake on Tuesday via Twitter and said it was “an incorrect caption from a photo wire service.” The mea culpa read, “We regret running an incorrect caption from a photo wire service in some early print editions. We will issue a correction in tomorrow’s paper.”

The “What’s Love Got to Do with It” actress also responded to the photo error and tweeted, “Hey Everybody, no worries! xoAng.” She also added a meme of actress Kerry Washington as ‘Olivia Pope’ from “Scandal” that read, “It’s handled.”

Although Bassett took an unruffled approach to the publication’s error, other social media users were a little more disappointed with NYT.

Singer and Trump supporter Joy Villa took to Twitter and expressed her frustration over the incident.

“Wow @nytimes do all dark-skinned black women look the same to your editors?? Gorgeous and talented Queen Angela Bassett looks nothing like that other one. #NYTimes #majoreffup,” Villa wrote.

Bassett will be starring in the upcoming film “Bumblebee,” which is centered on the Transformers character, and will appear as the voice of Shatter. The movie is set to release on December 21, 2018.
