There’s a bit of a beef brewing in the NBA, involving Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers, Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and the race for the NBA’s 2017-18 Rookie of the Year award. Simmons believes he should win, “100 percent.” But Mitchell is questioning whether the Sixers point guard, who played in his first NBA game this season after sitting out all of last year, should even be considered a first-year player in the league. Utah’s rising star is even trolling with custom Adidas hoodies — one of which featured a definition of the word “rookie” and the other the question “ROOKIE?” — printed on his chest. No pro sports league in the world does shade quite like the NBA — and we’re completely here for it. While we still have your attention, get to know Erica Ash, a former Broadway star who transitioned to the small screen, and now the big screen. In Detroit, the Midnight Golf Program teaches hundreds of students the lessons of the game and life. Lastly, some food for thought from the one and only Samuel L. Jackson on the biggest film of the year: “I’m not positive that Black Panther is going to change the dynamic of black stories being told in Hollywood and being accepted all over the world.” Agree or disagree?
