BBC under fire for segment on black people and fried chicken

BBC Newsbeat posted a clip of a segment for U.K .Black History Month online on Monday featuring a discussion of the stereotype of whether black people love chicken more than white people.

“Apparently chicken makes your bum bigger,” one white participant says in the clip asking whether the chicken stereotype is a “myth or reality.” “A lot of black girls that I know say that’s why they eat it.”

One black participant insists, “It’s not the only food that we eat.”

But still, a white participant says, “Loads of black people I know love chicken…There’s a stereotype but it’s true.”

The BBC has come under some serious fire for the tone deaf segment, not only for airing it in the first place but for asking white people about black stereotypes instead of actually speaking to black people.

Check out the cringe-worthy clip below.
