Chris Broussard Rips 76ers: ‘80% of League Is Black, If Some Patrons are Uncomfortable, Then So Be It’

On the Oct. 28 edition of FOX Sports One’s “Undisputed,” NBA commentator Chris Broussard rips the Philadelphia 76ers for denying singer Sevyn Streeter an opportunity to sing the national anthem earlier this week.

Atlanta Black Star reported that the singer clashed with the organization over a “We Matter” jersey Wednesday. She took to Instagram and vented her frustration to her followers. In a 10-second clip, she says: “I’m at the 76ers game to sing the national anthem and the organization is saying that I can’t because I’m wearing a ‘We Matter’ jersey.”

During today’s broadcast of “Undisputed,” Broussard does not understand why the organization was offended by the shirt because he believes the garment essentially equates to “All Lives Matter.”

“… I believe the [76ers] players demand that you bring her back to sing the anthem with a ‘We Matter’ shirt on and hand out ‘We Matter’ shirts in the arena … ‘We Matter’ could be everyone. The Sixers have to understand that this is a sensitive situation … 80 percent of the league is African-American. If it makes some of your patrons uncomfortable, then so be it!”

Since Broussard’s appearance, the team has apologized for Wednesday’s incident. The 76ers released this statement today:

“We are sorry that this happened. After receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe that the wrong decision was made. And Sevyn should have been welcomed to sing …”
