Former ‘View’ Co-Host Sara Haines, Michael Strahan Launch New Daytime Show to Mixed Reviews
Taking over the third hour of “Good Morning America,” the new “GMA Day” will air at 1 p.m. EST weekdays on ABC, People.com reported. Haines recently ditched her gig at “The View” to co-host the new show alongside Strahan, 46, who will remain on GMA during the 7-9 a.m. hours.
“I want people to have an hour a day where they can check out of their lives and be happy,” Haines told viewers. “A show that I’m putting on is one I’d want to sit back and watch for an hour …”
“I know you’ll leave happier, you may leave smarter on a good day, who knows?” she added, chuckling. “And there will be tears! I can make promises.”
Strahan chimed in, “This is a new show, not a news show,” noting the third-hour wouldn’t tackle the serious topics typically covered on GMA. “I want viewers to watch at home, I want them to have fun and I want them to be excited.”
Not everyone was thrilled about the new show, however, and longed for the days of “The Chew” which was cancelled in June after six seasons. “GMA Day” took its place.
“I still miss the Chew. Rest In Peace, The Chew 2012-2018. :(” one person wrote.
“:Sorry but I’d rather be watching The Chew,” another critic said. “This show is mind numbing. (Like Sara, but not this show)”
One user even warned Sara to “keep an eye out for the not so nice … not everyone can be trusted (sic).”
Still, there were those who had high hopes for the show and looked forward to seeing more from the daytime duo.
“Great Show guys!!” one fan tweeted. “I have been waiting for today since the show was announced!! Well worth the wait !! Congratulations!!
“I will see the show later but
@sarahaines & @michaelstrahan I’m happy for you both!” another one chimed in. “Haters gonna hate! So keep smiling Sara and don’t quit those 10 jobs Michael til you ready!!”
