James Daniel III Top scorer will shift to being a playmaker

Senior James Daniel III might have been the best-kept secret in college basketball last year. Playing on a team decimated by injuries, the point guard averaged 27.1 points per game, which led all Division I players.

A healthier team this season means Daniel doesn’t have to be as much of a scorer. If Daniel is able to shift back to being more of a playmaker role (he averaged a career-low 16.1 points per game during the 2014-15 season, but Howard had its best record in more than a decade) that will mean the Bison will be using more offensive weapons.

“I expect him to take another step, because that’s what he’s done every year,” said Howard coach Kevin Nickelberry. “But I don’t just want him to be the best player in the league. I want him to be one of the best players in the country.”
