June 30, 2018

It’s finally here — the weekend of June 29, which has given the culture two long-awaited projects that have been on our radar for quite some time. First, the release of Drake’s double-album (one side rhythm and blues, the other rap) titled Scorpion. With his first official studio album since 2016’s Views, Drake Harlem Shaked through the pressure of Pusha T’s superpersonal diss track, by delivering upon what he proclaimed on the final track of his 2017 playlist More Life, “Do Not Disturb” — I’ll be back in 2018 to give you the summary. Drake isn’t the only one who’s back. So is Uncle Drew, the character portrayed by NBA All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who’s super skilled at hooping despite being a super old man. Irving’s acting antics as Uncle Drew began in 2012 as part of a series of Pepsi Max ads. Now, Uncle Drew is its own full-length film, featuring a motley crew of hoops stars in Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber and Lisa Leslie. Uncle Drew on the silver screen, and Drake on the speakers? That’s the formula for a good weekend.
