Migos Were Kicked Off a Delta Flight But the Reactions to Their Treatment Left Many Disheartened

It seems Migos’ growing reputation for making comments perceived to be homophobic is earning them continued backlash. The Atlanta-based group and their manager were kicked off a Delta Air Lines flight heading to Des Moines, Iowa, for a concert on Friday evening. The reason the group was unceremoniously ushered off the flight is unclear, however, in a video that surfaced their manager claims racial profiling and threatens a lawsuit against the carrier.

Whatever the reason, Migos is having a hard time finding sympathy from the online community. Many of the commenters felt karma was having its revenge based on the group’s views of the LGBT community.

Earlier this year the group made comments regarding rapper iLoveMakonnen, who came out as gay. “That’s because the world is fucked up,” Offset spouted in a February Rolling Stone interview. Takeoff added, “The world is not right.” Needless to say, they were backtracking and offering apologies a few days later.

A more recent incident with pop singer Katy Perry likely sealed the fate of the rappers with the LGBT community and its supporters. Allegedly, the rappers refused to perform with drag queens during a set with Perry on SNL because they were “uncomfortable.” The drag queens were also reportedly barred from the after-party.

Delta released a statement noting that the rappers’s failure to obey the flight attendants ultimately led to their removal.

“Delta flight 1532 from Atlanta to Des Moines returned to the gate, prior to departure, to deplane several customers seated in the First Class cabin who repeatedly refused to follow crew member instructions to buckle their seatbelts and stow carry-on items in the overhead bins,” read the statement released to Variety.

Migos’ manager contends in a statement to TMZ that Takeoff was sleeping, which prevented him from following their instructions.

After the video surfaced of the trio calmly engaging with the Delta employees and their manager, in contrast having a shouting match, commenters gleefully celebrated their treatment with numerous tweets.

Others were dismayed that some commenters were dismissing Delta’s possible wrongdoing in the incident.

Some were confused regarding the charge of racial profiling if the Delta employee preventing them from boarding the plane is Black.

Unfortunately for the trio, their manager’s behavior wasn’t winning them any sympathy points. In the end, they were booked on a later flight and still made their concert.
