St. Kitts and Nevis — The government has accepted 20 recommendations from Investigative Consultants IPSA International, aimed at improving the country’s Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Program.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris said that the recommendations would form the basis of the efforts to restructure, reform and reposition the program and the CBI Unit in particular.

“This government has reviewed the report and after consultations with a wide cross section of persons representing developers, agents, service providers, lawyers, ordinary citizens and workers, we have decided that it is in the best interest of our country that we implement the 20 recommendations proposed by IPSA International.”

He indicated that among the recommendations that have been accepted are the implementation of a case management tool to streamline the application management process within the Citizenship by Investment Unit, changes to the Unit’s organizational structure to enhance processing capabilities and mitigate risk, an improved risk assessment process and a review of previously approved applicants.

Dr. Harris committed to weeding out undesirables that may attempt to take advantage of the program.

“We shall be revoking any passport that was used fraudulently…we shall also make provisions to revoke the citizenship of any citizen…who within five years of the issuance of the certificate of registration, commits a serious crime like an act of terrorism, or appears on international sanctions list, or on a wanted list of any country or international body, or is named in any scandal that might bring our beloved country into disrepute,” he advised.
