Two arrested in fatal shooting after Georgia graduation

Two people are under arrest after shots rang outside a Georgia high school graduation, killing a woman and injuring another.

Just days after the deadly Sante Fe Texas school shooting that killed 10, Georgia police are on edge after Friday night’s shooting in the parking lot of Perry Career Academy high school, reports.

The lot is across from the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, where the school held its commencement ceremony.

It was a night reserved for celebrating with the culminating activity for students to be honored after years of hard work. Now Clayton County Police are trying to put the pieces together to figure out why the shooting happened.

“We are still openly investigating this fluid incident and want to provide the most accurate information available,” said Clayton County Police spokeswoman Marcena Davis who confirmed the arrests in a news release.

Superintendent Morcease Beasley tweeted Saturday saying “our hearts are made heavy.”

“Today, while we are proud of & congratulate 200+ graduates of Perry Career Academy, our hearts are made heavy by senseless violence & death.

“We are saddened that such an incident has occurred that overshadows such a positive ceremony involving an exceptional group of graduating seniors,” Beasley said in a statement.

According to reports, two people started shooting at each other in the parking lot after an argument. The victim took a fatal shot to the chest. The other victim suffered a wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital.

There were more than 200 people attending the graduation ceremony. Arrests were made later that night.

While names have yet to be released, a woman by the name of @TrapGodTea tweeted Beasley urging for justice and saying that the shooting was a vengeful act that killed her mother.

“Please arrest [name redacted] and her daughters like I want my mom back I’ll never feel safe knowing those people won’t pay for what they did to my mom I promise I won’t my family will never recover from what their family did to us.”

She then tweeted on her page:

“This sh*t blowing me. I’m tired of seeing the media spread this fake ass story about a f*cking argument. Bro. Them boys came in that car with the intention to kill/fight. This sh*t wasn’t random. Nothing to do with an argument. They knew why they came and my mom didn’t get shot three times.”

Clayton County schools’ safety chief Thomas Trawick said: “The last thing you want to do is have a situation at a graduation that results in anyone being injured, and definitely not being shot,” Trawick said.

The school is located about 20 miles south of Atlanta. Names of the deceased have yet to be released.
