Watch: Mark Hughes, Innocent Black Man Wrongly Thrown into Middle of #DallasShooting, Speaks Out

Last night, snipers shot 12 officers, killing five at a rally in Dallas over the deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota.

The Dallas Police Department released a photo of Mark Hughes, an alleged suspect, but it turns out he was not involved, according to an interview with local CBS affiliate KTVT. In fact, there is video showing Hughes handing over his legal-to-carry rifle.

His brother, Cory Hughes, says that mistake led to death threats. He said they helped organize the peaceful protest and even handed over their guns to prevent an accident.

“I just got out of the interrogation room for about 30 minutes with police officers lying, saying they had video of me shooting, which is a lie,” Mark Hughes tells CBS 11 News live on the air. “That they have witnesses saying I shot a gun, which is a lie. I mean, at the end of the day, the system is trying to get me.”

After turning himself in, officers interrogated Mark Hughes and did not apologize for the mistake.

“I am not leaving Dallas,” Cory Hughes says after the death threats were made. “I am not afraid.”
