Whoopi Goldberg Fans Face Off With Trolls Questioning Why She’s Still in the Country After Trump’s Victory
Over the weekend, Goldberg shared an Instagram photo of her cheesing alongside Tiffany Haddish, actress Danielle Brooks and gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, among others, as they enjoyed the festivities at New York Fashion Week on Sunday with designer Christian Siriano. The candid photo left fans gushing, as they praised the longtime “View” co-host.
A few critics stopped by to stir the pot, however, questioning why Goldberg was still in the U.S. when she vowed to leave if Trump was elected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goldberg was among a laundry list of celebrities who threatened to leave the country if Trump, a businessman and former reality star, actually won the White House. It was before the contentious 2016 election that the actress claimed during a taping of “The View” that “maybe it’s time for me to move, you know.”
Goldberg is still here, however, and it seems critics want her to eat her words. Her fans weren’t having any of that though.
“I thought she was leaving the country if Trump won?” one critic commented. Another added, “Thought you were moving to CA CA CA just asking for a friend…”
“But I’m so glad she decided to stay,” a fan shot back. “Now Trump on the other hand, I can’t wait until he’s impeached, locked up, or resigned. Hey, maybe he’ll leave the country since he wants to MAGA!!”
Other fans chimed in on how much they loved seeing Goldberg on “The View.”
“I love watching you everyday on the View @whoopigoldberg,” one woman wrote. “You are inspiring, intelligent funny and full of wisdom.”
“Thank you for your honesty everyday on the view. We need more of it ,” wrote another.
After Trump’s stunning win over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, Goldberg clarified her previous statements, saying she had no intention of going anywhere and that Trump had misinterpreted her words.
“I’m not going anywhere, honey,” she said at the time. “This is my country!”
