Give People Permission to Help You
I’ve been quiet lately, as my team and I have been working behind the scenes on some very important projects here at Happy Black Woman Headquarters!
On Thursday, we officially started our 2016 Location Independent Business Academy with over 100 amazing women enrolled.
Next week, I’ll be traveling to Tucson, Arizona to host a special 3-day Mastermind Retreat with 23 of my high-level clients at Miraval, one of the top luxury wellness resorts in the world.
And just a few weeks after THAT, I’ll be hosting my exclusive Happy Black Woman Luxury Mastermind Retreat here in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii!
Yet, in the midst of all this amazingness…
Life does what it does.
I’ve had to deal with some business breakdowns, health challenges, family issues and even an argument with my boo :(
Of course, my default behavior is to go into Superwoman mode.
“I can fix this.”
“I can figure it out.”
“I can do this on my own.”
But then I get tired. Burnt out. Frustrated.
And all I want to do is cry and eat ice cream.
That’s when I know I need help.
That’s when I have to let go of my pride and call in the people on my “happy team” to lift me up.
I’m grateful to have an incredible group of people who help me with the “inner work” of being a Happy Black Woman:
My business mentor.
My Mastermind group.
My leadership coach.
My personal assistant.
However, what I’ve learned recently is that it doesn’t matter how much assistance I have access to if I don’t actually ACCESS it.
If I don’t tell people what’s going on and let them support me, how can I possibly be at MY best to serve others?
If you’re anything like me – ambitious, Type A, high-achiever – it’s not easy to reach out for help of any kind, even just to ask someone for advice.
BUT if you’re a black woman with a big vision and an important purpose, you must learn how to give people permission to help you so that you can ultimately have the impact you were meant to have in this world.
YOU have to be OK if you truly want to be able to accomplish your big goals, help others and make a difference.
So let’s agree – right now today – that whenever life gets overwhelming and you can’t seem to handle it all on your own, that you will do the following:
Open up and tell the people around you what’s going on.
Reach out and ask for help.
Call a close family member or friend.
Talk to your therapist, counselor or coach.
Make an appointment with your doctor.
Because you are too important to suffer in silence.
You deserve to be OK.
Yes, it’s critical that we take care of ourselves, but we have to allow others to take care of us, too.
