It Takes a Village to Support a Successful Black Woman

We had an incredible time at my 2018 Happy Black Woman Summer Camp last week!

32 amazing women flew into North Carolina for 5 glorious days of self-care, relaxation, healing and sisterhood on the top of a beautiful mountain.

At Summer Camp, I taught a powerful workshop on self-care.

I called it “Radical Self-Care” because I wanted the ladies to imagine what it would look like if they gave themselves full permission to take care of themselves the way they truly desired to.

I opened up the training with this statement:

It takes a village to support a successful Black woman.

That phrase resonated with a lot of the attendees as they reflected on all the ways they were feeling tired, unhappy, burnt out and depressed in their businesses and careers.

And it was all because of one thing:

They were NOT getting the support they needed and therefore not taking good care of themselves!

As we went through the workshop, I guided the ladies to identify exactly what kinds of people, services and resources they wanted to include in their support network.

Here are some of the ones they wrote down during the training:

  • Family members
  • Spouse/romantic partner
  • Friends
  • Accountability partner
  • Mastermind sister
  • Therapist/Counselor
  • Coach
  • Mentor
  • Personal assistant
  • Housekeeper
  • Nanny/babysitter
  • House manager
  • Private driver
  • Gym membership
  • Personal trainer
  • Massage therapist
  • Chiropractor
  • Dentist
  • Personal chef
  • Spa services
  • Hairstylist

Now it’s your turn…

Take a moment to write down a list for yourself!

If you could have anything you wanted in your life and business, what kinds of people, services and resources would YOU include in your support network?

Who would be a part of YOUR village?

Here’s the bottom line:

Your business should NOT be causing you to neglect your own self-care.

You should not be working yourself to death taking care of your clients, staff, co-workers, kids, husband, aging parents, etc. to the point where you are feeling tired, unhappy, burnt out and depressed.

One of the main benefits of being an entrepreneur is that YOU GET TO MAKE THE RULES.

You’re the Captain of this ship.

You’re the CEO of YOU.

You’re the BOSS, baby!

And your business should be run accordingly.

Your business should allow you to make more than enough money to pay all your bills, enjoy your life to the fullest and take EXQUISITE care of yourself.

But if it doesn’t, it’s time for you to take a step back and make some important changes.

You may need to change your business model, increase your prices, refine your ideal client, redesign your weekly schedule, etc.

I teach my clients how to do ALL of this in my Launch Your Business 90-Day Boot Camp. Plus, you get coaching with me twice a week as you go through the process!

Give yourself permission to have it ALL.

You deserve it – and the people around you do, too.
